The Linksys BEFSX41 is a broadband router capable of virtual private networking (VPN). The appliance was introduced by Linksys around 2001. From the rate this unit is getting updated firmware, we can suspect that it is near end-of-life.

I have acquired my first unit in early 2003. I have experienced lots of problems but in general I was very happy. Enough to purchase a few more units for different locations and link them together using VPN tunnels. Indeed, at the time I was confident that the issues I was experiencing would soon be fixed by Linksys.

At first, I sought for help. Thanks to the community of smart users at DSLreports, I was able to get my home network going. Once I gain confidence and experience, I started helping other users on the same forum as Flogator. Next, I met this great guy at Linksys which grant me access to beta firmware in hope it would fix my issues. You know, if all Linksys employees be like him, Linksys would be the greatest company ever. In 2004, I started a small web site sharing my findings and knowledge.

Unfortunately, one great guy cannot fight for the whole mothership. For the next few years, I received these beta firmwares from him, test them and provided Linksys with valuable data. This relationship worked great until about 2006 where my Linksys budy got involved on other products and for which I felt the BEFSX41 was no longer a priority neither a point of interest.

In 2007, while surfing the web, I stumble on a wonderful site giving hope that perhaps a third party firmware could be develop for the BEFSX41. After loss of motivation and discouragement from Linksys, I have decided to change focus and invest my time in learning more about the internal of this device. In August 2007, I started yet another small web site sharing what I have found in the hope to attract developers that could help me build a 3rd party firmware. Thanks to my friend Bob for helping out putting the site together.

In the mean time, I have changed ISP and the original sites are no longer available. Since I believe that this information is valuable and worth keeping around, I have created this consolidated web site. It contains the following:
